It's the most scenic train ride you'll ever see. Also, consider doing this tour 'Norway in a nutshell'. http://www.norwaynutshell.com It's a boat ride along the beautiful Fjords. This way, you end up meeting other people, and get to see most of Norway's attractions. I don't know about Iceland, sorry.
